The Full Story

Who I Am

When I began riding, no one in my family had been a part of the sport;

we all had to learn together. We are fortunate to have amazing trainers with great experience who guide us. For me, the lessons I have learned go beyond the show ring.

Passion

At age 5, I attended a summer horse camp, and I felt an immediate love for horses. While attending that camp, I rode a sweet gelding named Dot who I'll never forget. I was enthralled by the entire experience. It was the first time I fell for a horse, and it led to meeting the first horse I loved, Jesse. I rode him from ages 6-8, and our family took care of him when my trainer left town. I enjoyed brushing him, tacking him up, riding him, and spending time with him. It was the beginning of my journey, and my love for the time spent with my horses has never changed.

Foundation

I began taking lessons at a small barn where the manager was a Pony Club judge. She taught me about horsemanship and would give me dressage lessons while another trainer gave me beginner/hunter lessons. Even though I was 6 years old, she wouldn’t help me tack up. She instructed me through every step as I groomed my lesson horse, Magic, myself. I stood on a stool and could barely place the saddle pad and saddle on his back. Those moments of quiet time with my horse always meant as much to me as actually riding. My very first horse show was a barn show with Magic. I loved him so much, and when we won a class, the only prize that caught my eye was treats for him. To this day, I still pick out the treats. My next show was a dressage show on my other lesson horse named April. I will never forget her and how much I enjoyed that time. I found these experiences important for learning how to be connected to my horse, and they helped me achieve Pony Club certification.

What I learned in those first years was very important in getting me started. When I rode with Celine Myers for 5 years, I became more involved with horse care. She encouraged us to learn as much as we could, and I spent hours each day working with her and caring for our horses. That time was invaluable. I still try to learn as much as I can from our vets and trainers, and I take care of my two retired horses that live with us at home. I lunge them, look if they have good conformation or show signs of lameness, take care of any wounds they may get in pasture time, and help when they need to be checked on by a vet.

Competitive Drive

My strengths are my passion for being with my horses and developing a relationship with them. I have the ability to take direction and execute goals specific to that round. These traits have enabled me to adapt to the pressure as I am jumping at more competitive/higher levels. My development areas are to work on adjusting to my new horses as we compete at the 1.40m-1.55m level, doing the work earlier in the line to get a proper distance to the next jump, and core strength.

I have competed on teams including Children’s Nations' Cup (gold), Junior North American Youth Championship (gold), Prix des States (silver), FEI Nations' Cup Youth Finals (bronze), and FEI Nations' Cup Young Rider Finals.

Representing my country on multiple teams has been an honor. Going to Belgium for the 2023 FEI Nations' Cup Youth Finals and 2024 FEI Young Nations' Cup Young Rider Finals was a unique opportunity. These experiences have helped me grow as a rider and team member. Unlike usual showing, you are not just competing for yourself, but also for everyone on the team. I have met amazing riders on these teams, and I still talk to them today. I love being on a team because of that dynamic and how we all must work together. We would all cheer the team on, and winning with a team is so much more special because it proves the ability we had to come together and thrive.

Future

My current goals are to excel in the U25, FEI 2*, and FEI 3* divisions.

I really enjoyed being part of the FEI NAYC Junior, Young Rider, and Prix des States teams. Representing Team USA at the 2023 Junior Finals and 2024 Young Rider Finals in Belgium has been a highlight of my riding career.

Looking forward, I will continue to seek Nations' Cup opportunities. My longer term goals are to travel and compete in international shows. My dreams are to compete at the FEI World Equestrian games and to further represent Team USA.
